Here's what's up in SETX! 👻
…well, this is awkward. 😅
This was supposed to land in your inbox last Wednesday, but we got locked out of our own account. Of all the scary things happening this Halloween week, we think that might be the biggest horror story of them all. 💀
So first, sorry we're late! If you're wondering why the banner still says Wednesday, we'd already put everything together before our little account nightmare. We figured we'd keep it as is.
Anyway, we're back from the dead (and back in your inbox).
Now we want to hear from you! What's your Halloween costume this year? Or better yet, what's the biggest horror story you've ever experienced? Hit reply and tell us. We could use a good laugh after this one. 😂
And if you know someone who'd enjoy keeping up with what's happening around Southeast Texas, forward this newsletter their way! We'd love to have them along.
Alright, enough about our technical difficulties. Here's what we've got for you this week! 🎃

Something New Is Coming 👀
We're having a little fun with the Halloween look this week, but there's more coming soon. Keep an eye on your inbox. You'll be among the first to see it.

A Free Halloween Morning at the Museum 🎃

Image: Museum of the Gulf Coast
Bring the costumes: The kids can collect candy, meet costumed characters, and stop by the Halloween photo booth. Even better, museum admission is free that morning.
There's more to explore: Look for Dark Outdoors podcaster Chester Moore, Sea Rim State Park, a Chevron Phillips fire truck, and Laura & Abe's Ice Cream Truck.
📍 Museum of the Gulf Coast, 700 Procter St, Port Arthur
🕐 Sat Oct 31 · 10 AM to 1 PM

A Little Boo Berry With Your Coffee? 👻

Photo: The Avenue Coffee & Cafe
Halloween in a cup: The Boo Berry Cold Brew comes topped with actual Boo Berry cereal (starting at $6.50). More of a latte person? The Scarecrow Latte brings together pumpkin spice and cookie butter.
A little Mid-County pride: The Avenue roasts its house blend on-site and even sells a light roast called PortNederGroves, named for the three neighboring towns. Bags start at $15.99.
📍 1226 Port Neches Ave, Port Neches, TX 77651 · (409) 344-4594 · theavenuecoffeecafe.com
⏰ Takeout on Toast runs 7 AM to 4 PM. Call ahead for the full week.

Beaumont Has a New Place to Play 🕹️

Photo: Kirby's Arcade
Just opened: Kirby's Arcade welcomed its first guests Monday, October 26, and the grand opening is set for Halloween. Expect retro arcade games, Stern pinball machines, and a full bar.
Here's how it works: A $17.50 pass lets you play, head out, and come back later that same day. Kids 4 and under get in free. There's also a $99.99 monthly membership for a family of four.
📍 6510 Calder Ave, Beaumont, TX 77706 · (409) 271-0698 · kirbysarcade.com

A Little Something Permanent on Calder 💍

Photo: Mended TX
Made right here: Mended TX opened August 29 and offers handmade permanent, custom, and engraved jewelry. If your piece needs a repair or re-weld, they'll take care of it for free.
They'll come to you, too: Owner Kristin Queen-Hardin can bring her welding setup to pop-ups, birthdays, bachelorette parties, and girls' nights.
📍 2462 Calder Ave, Suite C (upstairs, through the black iron door), Beaumont · (409) 200-9005 · mendedtx.netlify.app
⏰ Hours vary for now, so book a time on Calendly.
Our Pick
Need a little fresh air? We'd head to the Beaumont Botanical Gardens before the weekend. The forecast currently shows a 60% chance of storms Saturday, so an earlier stroll might be your best bet. Want to go inside the Warren Loose Conservatory? Call (409) 842-3135 first to check the hours.

3 Fun Things
If you've got an hour or two to get outside, here's your excuse. Explore a pitcher plant bog, look for migrating songbirds, or wander through a beautiful glasshouse. With storms possible Saturday, a weekday outing sounds pretty good.

✅ Go pumpkin hunting before Friday: The Great Village Creek Pumpkin Hunt in Lumberton wraps up October 30. Find a pumpkin along the trails between 10 AM and 3 PM and exchange it for a prize. Admission is $4 for ages 13 and up.
✅ Pick up some tamales: Eloy's Neighborhood Market in Silsbee is selling its first batch of homemade tamales Thursday and Friday, 11 AM to 6 PM. Curbside pickup is at 365 N 3rd St, and they're $12 for a half dozen.
✅ Skip the backyard fire: Jefferson County's burn ban has been in effect since October 22, so keep that fire pit off for now.

A Big Weekend for SETX Sports
🔴 Lamar hits the road: The No. 13 Cardinals (6-2 overall, 4-1 Southland) head to Edinburg for the first time Saturday. Kickoff against UTRGV is at 7 PM on ESPN+. The Vaqueros are 10-0 at home, so this should be one to watch.
🏐 Volleyball at home: Lamar hosts SFA Saturday at 1 PM in McDonald Gym.
🏈 District titles in sight: Orangefield (4-0 in district) travels to Coldspring, while West Orange-Stark (3-0) welcomes Jasper. Both teams have plenty to play for this week.
