A Ranger Aims A Solar Telescope At The Sun

Spot Check : A ranger sets up a solar telescope so you can pick out sunspots and flares, plus a talk on solar cycles.

STS Industrial Reopens The Old McCoy's Building

Lumber Support : The supplier cut its ribbon in July on a new Orange facility, a renovation of the previously vacant McCoy's Building Supply store on I-10.
Corridor Of Power : The city's economic development corporation put $200,000 toward infrastructure against an estimated $3 million company investment along the IH-10 corridor.

🕰️ THIS DAY IN SETX HISTORY
September 17, 1923 : South Park Junior College opened in Beaumont with 125 students and fourteen faculty, in classrooms on the third floor of South Park High School. That college became Lamar University.
The State Clears Carbon Storage Under Western Jefferson County

Two To One : The Texas Railroad Commission approved ExxonMobil's Rose permit on a 2–1 vote, clearing three injection wells about 15 miles southwest of Beaumont.
Under Pressure : An 18-mile pipeline will carry carbon dioxide from Mid-County to the wells. Federal permits cap the site at 5 million metric tons a year.
💡 The bottom line: The wells sit 15 miles from Beaumont on a 13-year clock, and the Cheek-area neighbors who objected on groundwater and safety lost the vote.

⛽ Port Arthur LNG signs Brazil to 20 years : Sempra will ship about 0.8 million tonnes of LNG a year to Petrobras from Phase 2, the expansion that doubles the plant.
🎓 All three Lamar two-year campuses are growing : Preliminary figures put Lamar Institute of Technology up 16%, Port Arthur up 12% and Orange up 11%.
🏛️ Nederland raises its tax rate : Council voted 4–1 to set the rate at 46.6 cents per $100, up from 45.5, raising $251,746 more than last year.
🎓 Port Neches-Groves names a new superintendent : Julie Gauthier takes over from Dr. Mike Gonzales. She is the first PNGISD superintendent who graduated from the district.
🍽️ Orange County wants you eating local : The county economic development corporation runs a countywide restaurant week, September 21 through 27.
