🚧 Beaumont facilities reopen at noon: City Hall, Municipal Court, libraries and recreation facilities were closed Wednesday morning. Zip transit service begins at 9:30 AM.

🏛️ Budget hearing set for Sept 8: Beaumont will hold a public hearing on its proposed FY2027 budget Tuesday at 1:30 PM. The proposal would raise $8,155,333 more in property tax revenue, an increase of 11.87%.

🎉 Icy Cafe celebrates its opening: The Greater Beaumont Chamber has a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Sept 3.

Tropical Storm Edouard Comes Ashore 15 Miles From Port Arthur

Landfall: Edouard came ashore Tuesday near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, with sustained winds of 60 mph. Rain fell over Port Arthur at a rate of 4 inches per hour.
Thousands Without Power: At 6:50 PM Tuesday, Entergy reported 65,024 Southeast Texas customers without electricity: 45,999 in Jefferson County, 14,048 in Orange County and 4,973 in Hardin County.

💡 The bottom line: The state uses residents' iSTAT surveys to build the official record of Edouard's damage. If your address was affected, file one survey so the damage is counted.

🏛️ Port Arthur honors two community leaders: The Spur 93 business park will be named for Floyd Batiste, who led the city's economic development corporation from 2005 to 2021. A portion of Austin Avenue will become Rev. Dr. Luther B. Wade Way.

🚓 Nederland officers honored for saving a driver: Christian Shetley and Tanner Thompson pulled an unresponsive driver from a June 18 wreck at Twin City and Nederland Avenue and performed CPR until rescuers arrived. The driver survived.

🏗️ Third Coast Bank starts work on a Port Arthur branch: The two-story building is going up on Jimmy Johnson Boulevard next to Aref Plaza, one block from the modular location now in use. It is expected to open in spring 2027.

🛍️ Three local shops are opening together on Calder Avenue: A florist, bookstore and jewelry store will share one building, adding to the growing number of independent businesses along the corridor.

Industry pulse: This week's employment news brings both a setback and a new training investment. Louisiana-Pacific will pause strand board production at its Jasper mill in October, affecting about 150 jobs as the lumber market faces oversupply. Meanwhile, the state awarded Lamar State College Orange $489,624 to train 241 workers for three area plants.
