Oct. 21, 1859 : Arthur E. Stilwell, the railroad promoter whose syndicate founded Port Arthur on Sabine Lake, was born in Rochester, New York. His Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad reached the new town in 1897, and his companies also founded Nederland.
